Medicare Advantage Plans

What is Medicare? Medicare is a federal government plan that provides health coverage for adults over 65 and those under 65 with certain disabilities.  Medicare is funded by both Social Security and the Medicare taxes you pay on your income.  Often referred to as "Original Medicare", both Parts A and Part B will cover 80% of your health costs, leaving the patient responsible to make up for any gaps in coverage such as prescription drug expenses, dental or vision insurance and any deductible costs. Many folks today are working past 65.  If this is you, you don't need to sign up for Medicare, so long as you are under your employers group plan covering at least 20 employees.  You can also opt-out of enrolling at 65 if your spouse is covered by their employer group plan as well. If eligible, you can enroll in:

  • Original Medicare, (Parts A and Part B), which pays providers directly for each service a person receives.
  • Medicare Part D for prescription drug coverage
  • Medicare Advantage, (Part C) which is a type of private insurance offered by companies that contract with Medicare.
  • Medicare Supplement, a supplemental insurance plan that helps cover Original Medicare's gaps.

The Different Parts of Medicare

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medical Advantage plans, (sometimes referred to as Part C) involve independent insurance providers taking over the original Medicare plans of Part A and Part B while often adding additional benefits. This was created so that healthy competition can happen between independent providers which leads to better coverage and cost for the individual consumer. Horizon Senior Benefits INC Medicare Advantage plans can be tailored to include prescription drug coverage and other services such as vision care and specialized wellness and fitness services, in addition to extra benefits not paid by Medicare alone.
